This lecture, presented by physicist Dr. Murray Alexander, will survey early speculations on the existence of exoplanets. What are they and how do we detect them? Discover our current understanding of their formation, evolution, and what kind of atmospheres they may have and whether they could possibly be capable of supporting life. The enormous volume of data coming from recently launched space telescopes, such as TESS and Gaia, and several due to be launched soon, promise to add considerably to the growing evidence that we may not be alone.
