Drawing for Beginners

Program Description

Have you always been interested in learning to draw, but don't know where to start? Or perhaps you have some experience but would like a little guidance. In this 4-week course, you will learn, through direct instruction, demonstration, and hands-on practice, the basic techniques of drawing with a variety of drawing tools such as charcoal, pencil, markers, or conte pencil, pen-and ink, and colour pencil, on various types of paper. Day 1 - Understanding proportion. Shading with charcoal and pencil. Day 2 - How to draw a portrait from model or photo, with charcoal pencil or conte pencil Day 3 - Making a sketch into a finished drawing, with pen-and-ink or markers. Day 4 - Using colour pencil to create a still life drawing The instructor will provide supplies for the first session and will give a supply list and coupons at the first class which the students can use to purchase items for the remaining classes, or you may use supplies you already own. John started painting when 7 and worked and was taught to draw, as a studio boy at 13 by Frans Nijs, a well-known Dutch artist. He immigrated to Canada in 1952 and after working in advertising, he started teaching art in High Schools, Colleges and Universities. His work has been shown in Canada, The United States, Europe, Russia, China and Japan as well as Australia.
